I am writing another post on my tattooed eyebrows as I just got them refilled 5 days ago. The first time I had them done was about 4 years ago (see post My tattooed eyebrows) in VA. However it faded really fast (after just 1 year) and I had to use my eyebrow pencil again everyday…I then went to this Vietnamese girl that owns her nail place in Langley Park, MD and she did it 4 times cheaper and I should say way better!!!!!!!!!
I am posting a picture below, the tattoo is only 5 days old so the skin has not completely peeled yet (and it will not be that dark once it peels off). Will post some before/after pics next week!
If you are considering getting yours done and you are in the DC/MD area, check Fantasy Nails in Langley Park and ask for Cathy.
Summer is almost here and I have already started rocking my orange nail polish, maxi dresses and flip flops…I even added lil diamond studs on my big toe nail )
So I meant to write a post about my fabulous bronzer from LAURA MERCIER that I have been using for the past few months but never got a chance…I just went back to sephora to buy a new one coz I just gave away the one I had…( I am usually not that generous with my makeup…). So I took the time to make swatches, and also I am posting a pic that I took last month with me wearing it…I just have it on the top part of my apple cheeks. The shimmer bloc color is GOLDEN MOSAIC. I like the fact that the 4 colors in the quad can be worn individually on the eyelid and also, that it does not leave us with an ashy look when used on the face. I have noticed that some bronzer can give that ashy look on darker skin…This bronzer will just give you that perfect healthy glow!!! It can be worn during the day as well, just go easy on the application…and for a more dramatic look at night, use a tiny bit on your nose!
I also did some contouring with my BOBBI BROWN deep 4 bronzer. Make sure you use a good contour brush (Sephora blush brush #40 can work).
Decided to write a non-makeup post today but that’s because I have been having trouble with my hair lately…
I decided to go natural (yeeeesss!!!) but found out lately that transitioning is not an easy task. I am running out of options for styling my hair…I have been browsing all types of website and blogs…from Journal Nappy Girl to Black Girl Long Hair to Carol’s daughter Transitioning Movement…but truth is, unless you are very dedicated to your hair and are patient, you cannot do it. I have been able to resist relaxing for now 7 months and thanks to my nappy girlfriends all around the world (favorite blogger Vanoue, Gaelle from Les Hairoines, Anna B, Awa B…with all great natural hair) I can sustain the urge …
So I have been braiding my hair lately but I am not a big fan of conrows…cannot keep them for over a week…I do not want to put on weaves anymore…I have been walking around with scarves on my head (see picture on post below)…well I am just lost in this transitioning thing…AND cannot do the BIG CHOP!!!
I thought I would just share my transitioning adventure as every day has been a “bad” hair day for me lately…let’s hope I can make it…and for all of you nappy girls, kudos to y’all !!!
Just a quick post to share with you one of my favorite liquid foundation of the moment. MAC Studio Sculpt. I had a few prom girls makeover to do last week and used it on the girls. It looked flawless and the good thing about this foundation is that it gives a medium to full coverage with a satin finish. I found it to be especially good for bridal makeup! With all these weddings coming up this summer I will use it for sure on my brides and post pictures if I have the permission…
Note from the picture: This foundation comes in darker shades
M.A.C FASHION SETS!!!! I have been impatiently waiting for this collection to come out and here it is finally! MAC came out with this great idea of making a set of the best selling lip colors in each region of the world (nailpolish, lipstick and lipgloss). In north America, the colors are Russian Red, Girl About town, Snob, Myth, Chestnut (yes like your chestnut lipliner) and Spice. I wish I was in Paris right now to see the MORANGE set as I loooove orange, especially for summer!
RUSSIAN RED: It’s not my favorite Red…(Rubby woo is) but it still looks very good with a natural eye makeup…
GIRL ABOUT TOWN: Great pink lipstick for any skin complexion; for WOC use it with a Vino lipliner and make sure you add the gloss on top!
SNOB: Light pink … not really crazy about it but it looks good on fair skin
REBEL: GREAT color!!! works with nightmoth or Currant lipliner.
MYTH: Very light beige. Looks nude on white and very light complexion. If you have darker skin, you can use it with a brown lipliner like CORK, it will still give you that nude look.
SPICE: This is a nude lip color for WOC. It looks great with or without the lipgloss on top. However, my favorite nude lip color for darker skin is TAUPE (matte lipstick) and REVEALING (lipgloss) with a chestnut or bittersweet lipliner.
CHESTNUT: I love the lipliner but when it comes to the lipstick, I found out that it does not really look good on my complexion…an Asian girl at MAC wore it and it looked so good on her…just to say that it may come out better on lighter skin…but again that’s a matter of preference…
As far as the nail polishes, I will be honest with you and tell you that I did not buy any just because I know I can find the same @ OPI …and you know OPI won’t chip…
Here is a sunday FOTD! I have been looking for a neutral looking pressed powder for so long and I decided to try fashion fair today. The brand can sound somehow as an old brand but I found their pressed powder to be GREAT! One of the best I ever tried! I like it way better than MAC’s pressed powder as it gives more coverage without being to heavy on the skin. It can be comparable to the MAC mineralize powder, but I still prefer it over that one as it does not have any sparkles.
The FASHION FAIR pressed powder color I am wearing is PECAN.
Today was a beautiful day in DC! The sun is out and we are so ready for summer!!! I took the occasion to walk my best friend puppy Sidney (adorable…). So here is the look I had today while walking Sydney… ) :

It is obvious that u LOVE MAC and so do I, however I can’t find the right powder.
I like MAC but I think that people with my complexion are always stuck to the NW50 which is not necessarly the right shade. it can turn grey! I think that the darker you are the fiewer are your choices. In my opinion MAc does not have enough color choice for people with very dark skin; not African-Americans with just light skin!!! I might be wrong because when I go on the website, I can see different type of founcations and powders, so which powder and shade would you recommend? I use Black up becoz i get the right coverage, shade and a mat finish; What do you think?
merciiiiiii

Hi Anonymous,
Thank you for your question.
To answer it, MAC does have a lot of shades for darker skin. However, most people, especially African women are just stuck to the studio fix powder where the darkest shade is NW50. This studio fix powder is great for everyday use and its the perfect powder to have a combination of foundation and powder in 1. However, it is not recommended for pictures or as a night makeup especially if you are very dark. The reason is that some of the pigments used in that formula reflects too much the light and that’s why you can see sometimes people that use it and take pictures look like ghosts…lol…
So the solution for you if you really wanna use MAC will be to use their STUDIO TECH foundation or STICK foundation in NW55. The texture of the STICK is creamy so it doesn’t give you the same finish than the studio fix. However, the STUDIO TECH is also creamy but will dry on your face like a powder so it will be about the same than the FIX.
I also LOOOVE FASHION FAIR foundations for darker skin. You should try them as well. BLACK UP is indeed a great line and have very good foundations, so if you are happy with them, I would suggest to stick with them and try MAC or FASHION FAIR just to get something different…
Hope this helped…
A while ago, I received a request from one of my favorite Divas Amina to describe Brandy’s look in the “full Moon” video. I totally forgot to do it and only remembered today as I heard the song on the radio.
Indeed, her makeup looks flawless! Brandy is not the cutest girl but she always looks on point (makeup wise at least). I also love this song in particular…
So here is how I will replicate her beautiful natural look:

I’ve been looking all day and I can’t seem to find any celebrity pictures large enough with the green/brown look I wanted to create online. I’m really sorry. I did find a picture of Tamara Mowry and I wanted to know how to create her sun-kissed summer look. I have a MAC bronzer in Golden. At times I feel that it might be either too light or there is not enough sparkle because I don’t see much difference. I’ve thought about getting a melon blush and thought this might give me the look I was going for but I don’t know. I’m around the same color as Tamara and I wear NC45.
Thanks!!!!
Koshonna
Many of you have asked me how they could get that sun-kissed look on their face for the summer. The first thing about having a glowy skin like this is making sure that your skin is very healthy and does not have any pimples as shimmer will only accentuate them. Once you have your summer skincare regiment (which I will detail for you in another post), here is how you can achieve Tamara’s look:
ALL MAC UNLESS SPECIFIED
FACE
Foundation: Mix MAC Strobe Cream with MAC liquid mineralized satin finish in a small container and apply the mix as your foundation (be careful if you have oily skin as you may be shiny, this is best used at night)
Blush: Gingerly (on the apple of the cheeks)
Bronzer: If you have Tamara’s complexion, MAC Refined Deeper Bronze (under the apple of your cheeks as a countour). You can add a lil bit on your T-zone as well if you really want that bronzy look. Remember that your foundation is already shimmery…
EYES
Eyebrows: Fill them in very softly with Espresso eyeshadow or if you want a more precise line, use Spiked pencil
